In honor of valentine's day..

Hilarious...
I give you... Ah, L'Amour by Don Hertzfeldt
Enjoy....

"Ah, L'Amour" (1995) was produced during Don's freshman year at UC Santa Barbara for a beginning production class, and was never intended to be screened publicly. The two minute 16mm short was somehow completed in just a few weeks despite Don having had little experience working with film; made most noticeable by the visible fingerprints all over the camera lens. By no small miracle, Don's shaky guitar soundtrack - recorded solo in his dorm room on a broken down boom-box - somehow stayed in sync."

And who can resist a great peanuts cartoon...

Remember this?

And one more for good measure...

What makes me happy...(updated)

Awesome....
Why won't this dance make a comeback? I guess it's up to me to bring it back. Look at those moves!
Check out those elbow grabs! And chicken wing poses! This makes me happy.

Look! Here's the original! I like the daft punk version better.

friday finally....

She arrived at the barn just as I awoke. I flew down to get a closer look. Maybe she had food for me. Who was this girl and where were her clothes? Then I noticed the medallion around her neck. It said everything.

Angela often slept walked. Tonight she slept crawled. Where did she crawl to? The kitchen of course. She couldn't resist guacamole.

The bus station was hot...too hot in fact. Cynthia began undressing... layer by layer. She couldn't stand the heat. People stared as they walked by...but she didn't care. She enjoyed the attention.

Yipee Ahy Yay

She arrived after midnight...entering the pub with her long curly hair. Everyone turned around except me. No way was I looking at this dame again. She broke my heart once and I aint havin' that again. I could hear the murmur of the patrons as she downed shot after shot of tequila.

I awoke from what seemed like a nap. Although I don't recall naps invlolving ropes. My wrists ached and pulsated. These two dames were sitting in front of me. As sex crazed as I was, I had to shut my eyes and resist their temptation. Blood began to pour down my forehead. I was injured. Who are these girls and what do they want with me?
I was about to find out.

Abigail and Misty. Two of the finest librarians in the West.

She looked at me and smiled....as if she enjoyed knocking me down with the butt of her rifle. This girl was strong and confident. I've never seen concentration like she had....so focused and clear. Will we ever survive this dry desert together? I sure hope so.

It's alive...

I glance over the figure drawing model and see a better subject: Alex . And so ....I draw.

Waiting for the movies in Burbank. I spot a homeless man. What do I have to draw on? Nothing. Wait. In my back pocket. Ah yes, my paycheck envelope. Thank god for paychecks.

Long phone conversation. Who it's with? I have no idea. Must keep moving to stay alive. Pen, paper....success.

Dave Pimentel lecturing. I stare at that goatee...and then back up at the thick glasses. My hand starts moving and then...a turtle Dave is born.

Little boy Billy and His Trusty Whale

A sea adventure begins

#5!! #5!!!

Pixar released the first image of their character for a film called WALL.E.
Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo) is directing.
Looks pretty cute. Could these two be related??

Johnny 5

Ha! A Coke Ad!!

This is how I animate at work. I have to get inside the computer (through the back) and work my way to the models. Then I control them with wires and voice commands. Sometimes I get electrocuted..but then I call a T.D. over (technical director) and they spray me down with a fire extinguisher. Some days are rougher than others.

These images were taken from a cool website called www.johnny-five.com
Check it out!

Last of the Cowboys

Curious.

Drunk.

Here we have Steven Macleod (www.clockroom.blogspot.com) and Erik Fountain waiting for food at the 24 hour Denny's in Valencia. It's one of the best places to hash out story ideas. Plus, they provide you with endless amounts of coffee.

Food for thought. Erik's thinking really hard about ordering "moons over my hammy".

Here's Morgan Kelly ( www.morgankelly.blogspot.com) telling me a story in his office at work. Drawn on napkin. If you ever need help telling a story..just ask Morgan and I to help. We'll help you with the setup, the twist, and the payoff. We're big on details. So if you're telling us a story about your trip to the beach...and you fail to include the drive there, the weather, the type of air texture, and the clothing you are wearing....well, you need help, story help that is . Paint me a picture...it's the best way to tell stories.

doggy do..

woof...

I've been trying to draw hands better. I have a color copy of Milt Kahl's disney hands and I tried to replicate them. No tracing here, just pure observation. It was quite a challenge but I think I did pretty good. No?

These are Milt Kahl's drawing of hands.

Drawing arrival

Happy New Year compooter land!
Hello out there! Anyone still visiting this blog? I'm still alive...I swear. I've got so much to show you boys and girls it's silly! I've even got Over the Hedge thumbnails to post....get ready for those. It's gonna be an exciting 2007! Oh boy oh boy.
First up!
These cowboy drawings are from Dave Pimentel's life drawing class at work. So much fun...I can't even describe it. See for yourself.

These ladies are from a life drawing event held in downtown LA from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m every tuesday night. I showed up at 1 a.m. the day after Christmas and stayed for an hour. There were about 30-40 artists there drawing, painting, and sketching. The atmosphere is great.

Just had to share this

This was taken on the first night I saw The Incredibles. Pixar shipped out these two dudes to Valencia Ca. to screen their film to Cal Arts students. Being an alumni...I was able to sneak my way in. Brad Bird is on the left ( director) and Mark Andrews (head of story) is on the right. And that happy fellow in the middle trying to absorb their wisdom is little ol' me.
The Incredibles is like my Star Wars to film geeks. I saw it 7 times in theatres when it came out and I'm not embarassed to even say that....it's that good. I even feel bad watching it on DVD at home...it's really meant for the big screen.

Speaking of which. You know what's bugging me of late? And my friends have already heard me complain....It' s the "behind the scenes" overload on dvds, tv shows, magazines and the internet. I feel it's taking all the magic out of films. When I watched King Kong in the theatre I was actually thinking of the fake gorilla hand against a green screen that held Naomi Watts. Why? Because they had 100 behind the scenes video's of green screen shots online before the movie came out. Those visuals stick in my head and I have trouble deleting them.

Now I know it's necessary in this day and age for promotion of the film...but we need to be careful of how much we show. I like how Pixar is very secretive with their films. A lot of my friends in the industry hate that and are annoyed and think it's very pompous of them. But you know what?? I don't really care. Give me teases here and there...it makes it all more exciting. It makes it an event...they leave me wanting more. I don't even read movie reviews anymore because they always give you too much info. I usually go off word of mouth or skim through the movie review website :www.rottentomatoes.com.

Anyway...maybe I'm the only one that feels this way. Or maybe I'm just getting older and not enjoying movies like I did as a kid anymore. I just know that when I was a kid watching Christopher Reeve flying around New York City , I never thought about the wires holding him up or the fan blowing his cape around. I just knew he looked really cool and I believed every super-human thing he did.
